There are four opening prayers at the Sunday Eucharist: English, Korean, Spanish, and Kanjobal (a Mayan dialect.) The Apostles' Creed is on page 162 in the Gather Book. At the Greeting of Peace, Peace be with you is added in Hebrew and Arabic as our prayer for peace in the Holy Land.

This fall, the Spiritual Book Discussion Group will use the book, The Gift of Years, by Sister Joan Chittister. Everyone is invited to join this group which meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 7:30 P.M. in the Parish Center. Call Carolyn at 356-5194 for more information. The book will cost $15.

Hee Sook Maria Chung, a Ph.D student in the Department of Food Science, is recruiting participants for an internet survey designed to investigate which type of ginseng-containing food products will be most acceptable to U.S. consumers. Community Bible Study will offer an opportunity to sample Bible Study on Tuesday, August 26, 7-8:30 P.M., Faith United Methodist Church, 1719 S. Prospect, Champaign. The Life and Teachings of Jesus Christ is the theme for this year. A

The New Sanctuary Movement will bring Luis Alberto Urrea, author of The Devil's Highway, to the community on Friday, September 12. He will speak at noon at the University YMCA and from 5-8 P.M. at Pages For All Ages. Read the book alone or contact psyoen35@sbcglobal.net to join a community book group. In 2001, 26 men entered the desert but only 12 emerged. This book tells the story from many different perspectives and with compassion for all involved: the survivors, the coyotes (those who get paid to lead people across the border), and the border patrol.

St. John's Catholic Newman Center at the U of I is holding its Grand Opening Celebration the weekend of September 6-7. All area Catholics are invited to join the festivities, which include a tailgate before the UI/EIU football game, a lecture by Msgr. Swetland, a Gala Dinner at the Union, and a Dedication Mass celebrated by Bishop Jenky on Sunday. Some events require tickets. To learn more, call

Meditate. Visit www.sacredspace.ie for a daily scriptural reflection in English, Korean, and Spanish taken from the daily liturgy.
Visit a shut-in. Be matched with a St. Mary parishioner who would appreciate regular visits, weekly or monthly. Call Sandy at 352-8364.
Provide flowers. If you would like to provide flowers to beautify our sanctuary, please call Carolyn at 356-5194.

Feed the hungry. In addition to financial contributors (FCWH, P.O. Box 1612, Champaign 61824-1612), the St. Jude Catholic Worker House needs volunteers for the Soup Kitchen. Call Ellen at 356-7101 or Leigh at 359-9466.
Help the homeless. Donate shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, spray deodorant, hair care products for African-American men, shaving cream and disposable razors to the T.I.M.E.S. Center. All sizes are appreciated. The collection box is in the church lobby. Call Carolyn at 356-5194.
Save your used stamps. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet redeem them for cash which is used for their missions in Peru and Japan. Container is in the lobby.
Save your inkjet printer cartridges. St. Mary earns $2 for each one which is then donated to the St. Jude Catholic Worker House. Place them in the box in the lobby or use the mailing bags by the box.
Shop. In addition to the many products from El Salvador, handmade jewelry,
St. Mary note cards, and the St. Mary Choir CD are on sale in the lobby. These sales support the small women's co-ops in El Salvador.

Communion for shut-ins may be arranged with the pastor.
The Sacrament of the Sick is administered twice yearly at Sunday Masses or may be arranged at any time with the pastor.
The Religious Education Program for school children is held on Sunday mornings at 9 A.M., October – April.
