There are four opening prayers at the Sunday Eucharist: English - varies from Sunday to Sunday; Korean - "Merciful Lord, with all our heart, may we adore you and love all the people truly"; Spanish - This also varies from Sunday to Sunday; Kanjobal (a Mayan dialect) - "God, our Father, we always follow Jesus. May he breathe on us his saving Spirit. We pray in his name." The Apostles' Creed is on page 162 in the Gather Book. At the Greeting of Peace, "Peace be with you" is added in Hebrew and Arabic as our prayer for peace in the Holy Land. Shalom aleichem in Hebrew and Asalamu aleikum in Arabic.

St. Mary Parish Nurse, YangSoon Kim, will provide Blood Pressure Screening on Sat., Aug. 9, and Sun., Aug. 10,
after Mass. Join her in the Romero Parish Center.

Attorneys and specialists from The Immigration Project will be available in Bloomington, Illinois, on Wednesday, August 6, and Thursday, August 7, to answer questions about immigration and citizenship. Representatives will also be available to help you complete your citizenship application in Arcola, Illinois, on Tuesday, August 19. You must make an appointment by calling 1-800-298-3235, ext. 105.

The Catholic Worker House Soup Kitchen will be closed from August 1 until September 5. This gives the volunteers a respite and allows time for cleaning and refurbishing the House which gets intense wear. Our Soup Kitchen guests may eat lunch and dinner at the TIMES Center during the closure. Perishable food donations may be taken to the TIMES Center at 70 East Washington Street in Champaign. Questions about other donations or to volunteer to work during the August clean-up, please call Ellen at 356-7101.
There will be no August Community Meeting. The next Community Meeting will be Saturday, September 13, at 9 A.M. in the Annex. Soup Kitchen volunteers will meet on Sunday, August 30, at 4 P.M. in the main House.

St. Malachy School and the Knights of Columbus will host a fundraiser at the Rantoul National Aviation Center-Airport on Saturday, August 16. The Boat Drunks band will play from 5-9 P.M. Admission will be $5 and food and drinks will be available. Visit www.sms217.com for more information.

Through Catholic Charities Adoption Events, parents and prospective parents will discuss the value in learning how to appropriately care for children of diverse cultural or racial backgrounds. Additionally, parents and prospective parents learn the important connection to self-care and cultural and racial identity. The event will take place on Tuesday, September 2, 1315A Curt Dr., Champaign. RSVP at 352-5179.

Faith in Action is an interfaith ministry providing practical help, spiritual support, and emotional assistance to people 55 or older. Orientation sessions are scheduled in August and September. Call Lana or Candy at 337-4700 for more information.

Champaign County Mental Health Center is recruiting volunteers for the Fall Crisis Line Training. Volunteers only need to have the ability to listen and provide support. Crisis Line volunteers receive 12 hours of training which will be held
September 16, 18, 23, & 25 from 6-8:30 P.M. at the Mental Health Center,
202 W. Park St., Champaign. Applications may be requested at 373-2430 (ext. 2190) or by contacting Bgay@mhcenter.org.

Provena Covenant Medical Center has a need for additional volunteers to help in the Gift Shop, as patient ambassadors, patient wheelchair transport, informational services, and surgical waiting room. Please call 337-2378 for more information.

St. Mary Church Ministry Opportunities

Pray. Remember our parish community, pastor, bishop, and our sister communities in Calavera, El Salvador in your prayers.
Meditate. Visit www.sacredspace.ie for a daily scriptural reflection in English, Korean, and Spanish taken from the daily liturgy.
Visit a shut-in. Be matched with a St. Mary parishioner who would appreciate regular visits, weekly or monthly. Call Sandy at 352-8364.
Provide flowers. If you would like to provide flowers to beautify our sanctuary, please call Carolyn at 356-5194.
Study. Bible Study Group, noon, Tuesdays. Spirituality Study Group, 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 7:30 PM. Call Sandy at 367-7664.
Tutor. Pair with a Korean parishioner to help improve their spoken English. Call Lynda at 328-4066 or jminor@uiuc.edu.
Feed the hungry. In addition to financial contributors (FCWH, P.O. Box 1612, Champaign 61824-1612), the St. Jude Catholic Worker House needs volunteers for the Soup Kitchen. Call Ellen at 356-7101 or Leigh at 359-9466.
Help the homeless. Donate shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, spray deodorant, hair care products for African-American men, shaving cream and disposable razors to the T.I.M.E.S. Center. All sizes are appreciated. The collection box is in the church lobby. Call Carolyn at 356-5194.
Save your used stamps. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet redeem them for cash which is used for their missions in Peru and Japan. Container is in the lobby.
Save your inkjet printer cartridges. St. Mary earns $2 for each one which is then donated to the St. Jude Catholic Worker House. Place them in the box in the lobby or use the mailing bags by the box.
Shop. In addition to the many products from El Salvador, handmade jewelry,
St. Mary note cards, and the St. Mary Choir CD are on sale in the lobby. These sales support the small women's co-ops in El Salvador.

Marriages must be arranged with the pastor at least four months in advance. Attendance at Pre-Cana Conferences is required.
Communion for shut-ins may be arranged with the pastor.
The Sacrament of the Sick is administered twice yearly at Sunday Masses or may be arranged at any time with the pastor.
The Religious Education Program for school children is held on Sunday mornings at 9 A.M., October – April.
Check out the magazine rack in the lobby. A number of excellent Catholic publications are available for purchase.
