There are four opening prayers at the Sunday Eucharist: English - varies from Sunday to Sunday; Korean - "Merciful Lord, with all our heart, may we adore you and love all the people truly"; Spanish - This also varies from Sunday to Sunday; Kanjobal (a Mayan dialect) - "God, our Father, we always follow Jesus. May he breathe on us his saving Spirit. We pray in his name." The Apostles' Creed is on page 162 in the Gather Book. At the Greeting of Peace, "Peace be with you" is added in Hebrew and Arabic as our prayer for peace in the Holy Land. Shalom aleichem in Hebrew and Asalamu aleikum in Arabic.

United In Gratitude as One Church, let us join together to support this year's Annual Diocesan Appeal. Thanks to the 43 families who have already pledged 56% of the $19,265 goal assigned to St. Mary.

Spiritual Direction invites us to live in the present moment so that we may open our hearts to receive God's unconditional love and compassion. Sr. Charlene Cesario, SSCM, offers spiritual direction. Contact Sr. Charlene at 841-2916 or charlenemec@sbcglobal.net.

Our next delegation to visit Calavera will be June 28-July 6. Calavera is our sister communities in the mountains of El Salvador. Our delegation includes Kathy Fries, Cindy Magsamen, Abel Montoya and Dr. Walter Gonzalez. A young Salvadoran doctor will join the delegation in San Salvador. An American volunteer working at CEBES may also join the group to visit the communities. Annual delegations have visited the five small settlements since 1992. Please consider supporting our projects in these poor communities. The projects include the Nutrition Program that has been very successful promoting better nutrition among the children. There is also the Emergency Medical Fund, the School Fund, and the Scholarship Program. Bring by old glasses which will be distributed in the clinics. This delegation represents this parish community as well as other friends of Calavera. Let us support this delegation with prayers, encouragement, and financial donations for the projects. Become a prayer partner by signing one of the prayer lists in the lobby.

Each summer, migrant farm workers from southern Texas, Alabama, Nebraska, and Washington come to this area to work detasseling corn. Because the corn leaves cut their arms when they are working in the fields, please donate used long sleeve shirts and blouses. The shirts and blouses need to be made of cotton and previously laundered. Please do not donate flannel or polyester shirts and blouses because these materials are very hot. Other donations needed are blue jeans, tennis shoes, kitchen items, and blankets. Items will be collected through June 29 in a box in the church lobby. Thank you for your donations that help welcome these families to our area.

Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court 1070, will have lunch and meet on Tuesday, June 10, 11:30 A.M., at the Eastland Suites, 1907 N. Cunningham Ave., Urbana. Call Jane at 356-9329 for reservations. Guests are welcome.

Home Made Ice Cream Social will be held at St. Mary Church, Rural Pesotum, Sunday, June 8, 4-7 P.M. BBQ, Hot Dogs, Desserts, Raffles, Bingo, Kid Games!

TEC (Teens Encounter Christ) invites each young adult (ages 16-20) to participate in a 3-day weekend to live, think, listen, and pray together. The next Boys Weekend will be in Bloomington, June 21-23, and the next Girls Weekend will be in Bloomington, July 12-14. Brochures and applications are in the lobby.
