Did you know that your Annual Diocesan Appeal dollars fund the Office of Vocations which is responsible for the recruitment and formation of seminarians?
Palm branches have long been associated with the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. The palm is a symbol of victory, conquest, and kingship. As a symbol of Jesus, the Prince of Peace and Servant King, the palm has an added significance: for the palm, of all trees, is the servant tree. The palm offers shade for the weary; it is a source of food for the hungry; from its branches people obtain sugar, resin, and oil and they are used for weaving baskets and thatching roofs.

The St. Mary Parish Paschal Meal will be held on the Tuesday of Holy Week,
April 7, at 6 P.M. in the parish center. This meal is intended for all members and friends of St. Mary Parish: young and old, families and singles. Please invite your friends to join us. This event allows us to gather our whole community together to share a meal. Please make plans to participate! Tickets are needed in advance and will be available after Mass in the lobby. The price of the meal will be $6 for adults, $4 for children 6-12 years old, and free for children under 6. Volunteers are needed to set-up at 4 P.M. on Tuesday, April 7, and clean-up after the meal. Sign-up sheets are in the lobby.

You are invited to join Bishop Jenky at the Cathedral of St. Mary for the celebration of the Chrism Mass, Tuesday, April 7, at 1 P.M. During this liturgy, the Holy Oils will be blessed and consecrated. All the priests of our diocese will also renew their priestly commitments. Let us come together for this special celebration of Holy Week and to support our priests.

On Good Friday, our parish will take up the annual collection for the Holy Land. We ask you to be generous. Your financial contribution will support the works of the Catholic Community in the Middle East and protect the Holy Places and Christian shrines.

Of special interest to those of Polish, Ukrainian, Lithuanian, and Central European background will be the tradition of blessing of Easter foods at 1 P.M. on Holy Saturday, April 11, at Holy Cross Church, 401 W. Clark St., Champaign.

2nd Annual Taste of St. Mary, organized by the Korean Catholic Student Association, will be after Mass on Sunday, April 19. In addition to gathering together as a family for lunch, this will be an opportunity to raise money for the St. Mary Church Calavera Fund. Volunteer cooks are needed to feature their own ethnic cuisine. Contact Noel Hansu Na at 553-0962 for more information.

Catholic Charities Advisory Board's Annual Steak Dinner will be held again this year at the Center of the Universe – The Philo Tavern, on Sunday, April 26. The event will begin with a cash bar at 4 P.M. followed by dinner at 5 P.M. All proceeds benefit local programs of Catholic Charities in our community. The tickets are $30 each with $20 a donation to Catholic Charities. For tickets, call Kay at 762-2573.

Consider joining the St. Mary 2009 CROP Walk Team. This walk, held this year on Sunday, May 3, raises money for local agencies such as the Eastern Illinois Food Bank, the T.I.M.E.S. Center, and Catholic Worker House. The CROP Walk binds us with other faith communities in Champaign-Urbana. Contact Sandy at 367-7664.

Mark your calendar! All Catholics from the 18 parishes in the Champaign Vicariate are invited to Catholic Connected: Beyond the Pew, a gathering with Bishop Jenkey on Wednesday, June 3, 7 P.M., at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
